Martin Safran Citizenship Awards and
Stewart Weiner Scholarships 2020
The Association of Assistant Principals expresses its gratitude to members who nominated student candidates for the Martin Safran Awards and the Stewart Weiner Scholarships in early March 2020. The AAP presents 15 students annually with the Martin Safran Awards for exemplary school and/or community service. The late Martin Safran was the epitome of an Assistant Principal. In his honor, we award $100 and plaques to 15 NYC public school students who give of themselves to their school and/or community. The AAP awards the Stewart Weiner Scholarship of one thousand dollars to deserving college-bound high school seniors. The award was established in honor of the late Stewart Weiner, former Assistant Principal of PS 20, in Manhattan.
On this occasion we encountered challenge: a global pandemic that shut our schools and changed our lives. Despite the challenge, the AAP executive board proceeded tenaciously, with the processing and review of applications. The board held remote meetings and used all the available technology to communicate from their homes. We thank the executive board and its members for their commitment to these venerable scholarships/awards.
We proudly announce the recipients of our annual Martin Safran Award and Stewart Weiner Scholarship. These young scholars through their hard work, dedication, service and leadership are fit to be recipients of Martin Safran Award and Stewart Weiner Scholarship.
