Martin Safran Awards

The AAP presents 15 students annually with the Martin Safran Awards for exemplary school and/or community service. The late Martin Safran was the epitome of an Assistant Principal. In his honor, we award $200 and plaques to 15 NYC public school students who give of themselves to their school and/or community. Applications are due March 8, 2024.

Candidates must demonstrate exemplary service to their schools and/or communities and must be nominated by their school's Assistant Principal, who is an AAP member in good standing. (Limit: three applications per school.)

A student must write an essay describing service in their school or community using these questions as a guide:

1. Why is your service important?
2. How did it help change your school/community?
3. What did you learn from the service?

Stewart Weiner Scholarship Program

Each year, the AAP awards deserving college-bound high school seniors college scholarships. The award was established in honor of the late Stewart Weiner, the former Assistant Principal of PS 20, Manhattan, an esteemed colleague and dear friend, who was the personification of the adage, "No one stands as tall as he who stoops to help a child."

All AAP members whose children will graduate from high school this coming June are invited to apply for this scholarship. We award up to three scholarships of $1,000. Your child must be accepted into an accredited college program to receive the award.
